Excel Workshops

SCOUTING WORKSHOP

England Netball’s new Scouting Workshop has been developed to provide scouts/aspiring scouts with the skills and tools to select players into the County Excel Pathway (Satellite and County Academies). Scouts must attend this workshop to begin the accreditation process of becoming a Local or County Scout.

The workshop will include theory and practical observation sessions. Attendees will leave the workshop with an understanding of:

1.How to assess the effectiveness of a talented athlete

2.Effective scouting and selection skills

3.Effective selection tools

4.Support available

Following this workshop ‘developing scouts’ are required to attend identified events to become a fully accredited Local or County Scout. During their accreditation process further training opportunities and support will be available to them via the Regional Head Scout and Regional Excel Coach.

TALENT IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP

England Netball’s new Talent Identification Workshop has been developed to help teachers and club coaches identify talented and potentially talented netballers. This is a certificated course and accredits attendees to nominate athletes to an appropriate level within the County Excel pathway (Satellite and County Academy Level).

The workshop is a CPD opportunity for teachers and club coaches; it will give them a better understanding of what is needed to succeed in netball and how they can help their talented players be the best they can be. Attendees will leave the workshop with an understanding of:

1.The England Netball Excel Programmes and Structures

2.The characteristics of a talented athlete

3.Processes for Talent Identification and Selection

4.Selection methods and considerations

5.Support available

From September 2010 athlete nominations for Satellite and County Academies will only be considered from accredited nominators or scouts.

COACH SHARING DAYS

These are open to any coaches within the Region and offer a chance for coaches to share ideas, observe sessions from guest coaches and gain support from the REC and each other.

Netball West Midlands run a Regional Academy to support talented athletes in the Region with the aim of helping players reach their potential, hopefully progressing into the National Talent League (Junior equivalent to Superleague) and the England National Excel squads.

The West Midlands Excel Coaches are head coaches at the Regional Academy and deliver training along with giving athletes an online athlete management programme.

The online programme helps players with their responsibilities outside of the Netball training sessions, such as their fitness training and nutrition.
