Staffordshire Netball Performance Pathway 2019/20
There are four training groups; Under 13 Academy and Development and Under 15 Academy and Development.
The Under 13 section, is the first step on the England Pathway, for young netballers under the age of 13 years old, school year 8 and below. Staffordshire County Netball Associations manage and deliver the Performance Pathway on behalf of England Netball and Severn Stars Franchise, delivering about 40 hours of sessions per year. Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches should deliver the training programmes. The emphasis in the Satellite Academy is for young netballers to learn how to train on their own, and to understand, experience and practice some of the different components required in a training programme.
The Under 15 section, provide training for athletes under the age of 15 years old, school 10 year and below. Staffordshire County Netball Associations manage and deliver the Performance Pathway on behalf of England Netball and Severn Stars Franchise, delivering between 40-60 hours of sessions per year. Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches should deliver the training programmes, providing athletes will the support and skill set they need to progress to the next level of the Pathway, Superleague Franchises.
Strength and Conditioning work is also important for this level and age group of athletes, to ensure that muscles are developed properly, to prevent injury and to prepare them for a greater intensity of training as they progress their netball careers, this is also provided within the program of the Performance Pathway.
All age groups train approximately once to twice per month at Stafford Manor High, Stafford and twice a year at Denstone College, Uttoxeter.
Athletes that show the greatest levels of potential, that are committed to training and show consistent improvement will be put forward to the numerous tournaments which Staffordshire Performance Pathway participate in.
Each year, Staffordshire County Netball Association host the Staffordshire Performance Pathway Tournament, 2019 Tournament seen 34 teams from across 8 counties attend.
At the end of the season, the Under 15 Academy is invited to take part in the Severn Stars Tournament which is another opportunity for athletes to be scouted for selection into the Severn Stars Pathway. This year’s event was held on the 25th May 2019 and the Staffordshire Under 15 Academy gain the runners up position in the final, narrowly missing out on the win, only losing in the last quarter of the final.
