Having become a Live Donor by donating a kidney to her son in August 2017, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire’s Carolyn Owen (Netball Coach at SOT College and Harriers Netball Club) represented Nottingham City Hospital with son Luke in this year’s Westfield Health British Transplant Games in Birmingham from 2nd to 5th August.

Doing it for Amber

2/7/2018

Picture
On Sunday 3rd June, 20 netball teams came together to play in a tournament in aid of a very special netball family; the Sorsby's.

Jayne Sorsby and both her daughters Amber & Ellie have played netball for several years in the Stafford area but in March this year tragedy struck when Amber Sorsby was involved in a horrific road accident. As a result of this, Stafford League member - Laura Colclough decided to raise funds to help Amber’s treatment and rehabilitation process.

With the warm weather on their side and an army of volunteers the first Sorsby Plate tournament was a huge success. Teams came from all over the county and the standard of netball was fantastic.

Winners of the tournament and the Sorsby Plate were Harriers Netball Club, silver medal winners were Stafford Netball Club and bronze medal winners were Allsorts Netball Club.

Winner of the most goals in 1 minute was Victoria Robley from Newport Girls High School.
Congratulations to all the teams that took park. Also many thanks to all the umpires, volunteers, visiting teams and all those involved.
As a result of the event being so successful it was decided that the Sorsby Plate Tournament will now be an annual event. We wish Amber every success in her rehabilitation and hope to see her very soon.
