On Sunday 22nd March 2015, four teams from across Staffordshire came together for the County’s second ‘Back to Netball’ festival and to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The festival, held at Stafford Sports College provided the opportunity for ladies attending Back to Netball sessions to come together for a fun and friendly tournament.
Teams travelled from Stafford, Stone, Cheadle and Lichfield and over 36 ladies took part. After a nervous start teams soon started relaxing and enjoying the games. With some closely contested matches, the final placings came down to goal difference. The first place spot was tied between Stone and Lichfield, with both teams equal on points - but it was Stone who claimed the festival title with +14 goal difference. Lichfield just missed out and claimed the title of festival runners up. Cheadle, who have been together for less than 6 months finished 3rd, and Stafford 4th place. All teams showed some great netball skills!
During the day, the teams contributed towards Cancer Research UK and managed to raise a grand total of £42.22 for charity! A big thanks also needs to be said to Stafford Sports College for the use of the facility and the 3 great Umpires from Stafford and Tean Valley Netball Clubs.
Back to Netball is a coach led programme aimed at re-introducing women and girls over the age of 16 back to netball. Sessions are a great way to get fit, have fun and meet new friends. If you are interested in getting back into netball then check out the England Netball website to find your nearest session or contact your local Netball Development Officer; Kate O’Leary on telephone: 07545 924957 or email: kate.o’[email protected]
