On Wednesday, February 22nd Stoke-on-Trent College held its first 'One Day Netball Camp'. The opportunity to attend this FREE Netball 'camp' taken up by 26 girls most of whom already play for one of the local area's netball clubs including Harriers Netball Club who base all their training at Stoke-on-Trent College. Many of the girls who attended are also already on the England Netball Performance Pathway training with the County U16 Academy.
The girls participated in individual fitness assessments, an injury prevention workshop and a 3 hour coaching session ran by SOT College staff, to equip them with the skills to improve their individual netball performance.
Carolyn Owen (SOT College Head Netball Coach) said "I expected the players attending to be of a good standard and wasn't disappointed; there is definitely some talent in Staffordshire and Cheshire. Their ability meant that rather than cover the basics I was able to base the session on ways in which the girls could improve their 'on- court decision making'.
Trevor Humphreys (Institute of Sports Performance Manager, Stoke-on-Trent College) added “The camp was a great opportunity to introduce what the college has to offer for potential students who want to train, compete and study at Stoke-on-Trent. Netball is a key sports programme moving forward and discussions have been held with key partners on future developments so watch this space”.
At the end of the 6 hours of activity, the girls went home tired but with smiles on their faces.
