On Sunday 20th March 2016, five teams from across Staffordshire came together for the County’s third ‘Back to Netball’ festival and to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The festival, held at Stafford Manor High provided the opportunity for ladies attending Back to Netball sessions to come together for a fun and friendly tournament.
Teams travelled from Stafford, Stone, Rugeley and Cheadle and over 44 ladies took part. After a nervous start teams soon started relaxing and enjoying the games. With some very close games, the final placings came down to goal difference. Stafford came out on top, winning by +2 over Stone who came in second place. Cheadle 1 were highly contested during matches and finished in third place with Rugeley, who have been together since January, in fourth and Cheadle 2, also another newly formed team, finishing in fifth. The player of the tournament was awarded to Brooke from Stone Back to Netball.
Proceeds from the day were donated to charity with a grand total of £120.38 raised for Cancer Research UK. Netball Development Officer; Kate O’Leary said of the festival ‘It was great to see teams coming together from Back to Netball sessions around the county, most of which have only been running for less than year. I would like to say a big thank-you to Stafford Manor High for use of the facility, the great umpires (Shelley, Bev and Kate) the coaches for their support on their day and the players for helping us raise money for a fantastic cause. I’m already looking forward to the next one!’
