The first round of matches in the County Junior Netball League was played at the weekend and, as usual, the standard was high and the competition strong.
Tean Valley Shooters took on new team to the league, North Staffs, in the only game in the Under 16 Premier Division. North Staffs led by a couple of goals for most of the match but excellent work by the Tean Valley defence led by Hannah Newman gave the Tean Valley side the chance to pull even with minutes to play. Molly Johnson and Emily James converted their chances and levelled the score at 21 all. Super-sub, Robyn Spibey, was player of the match for North Staffs.
In the Under 16 Second Division, Fenton Manor B beat Stafford Emeralds by 19 goals to 16 in a very close game. Stars of the match were Chloe Goodwin for Fenton and Katie Littlewood for Stafford. Emilia Watchorn-Rice worked hard for Tean Valley Blades, but they could not contain a strong Newcastle Town Lightning team losing by 14 goals to 44. Lydia Fitzmaurice-James starred for Newcastle.
